There are many potential benefits of buying tablets for kids however, there are also several drawbacks of letting your child use one. Depending on your child’s age, he or she may handle this powerful and versatile minicomputer in a rough manner. For parents, this is a big issue since they spent a lot of money to buy this device just for it to be mistreated.
One of the major issues of buying tablets for kids is how your child will use the device. Most parents will just tell their child to use it with limitations but they don’t really know what’s running into their child’s mind. Their child can use it as music or a movie player all day long and this will discourage them to go outside and play since they are satisfied with what they already have.
Also, there are some tablets that don’t have strict parental features and if this is the case, then the parents will have no control as to what their child will be able to access especially in the internet.
Obesity should also be one of the biggest concerns that parents should be able to know today especially when they are planning to buy a tablet for their child because it will mean less exercise since their child is going to sit all day using the device. There may be some applications that their child can download which teaches them about fitness but there is no assurance if their child is going to use it.
Another big disadvantage of buying a tablet for your child is the pressure of choosing the right one since there are a lot of tablet brands that has different features for both the hardware and the software. Of course, parents should be able to compare tablets for them to choose the best one and for them to not regret what they have bought in the long run and this is certainly not an easy task to do.
Your child’s attention span could be shorter when buying your child a tablet since they will focus more on what they are doing with it. This will cause less bonding time for the family which is definitely not healthy.
Parents who are concerned of giving the best things for their child should consider these several major drawbacks of buying a tablet for their child. They should also be aware that a tablet is not a cheap device which is why they should really think twice or thrice before buying one for their child.
Finally, if you have decided to buy one, you should make sure that your child is going to use it for several years to come and it will provide them more benefits that disadvantages so that you won’t regret buying it.
Amazing! Its actually amazing article, I have got much clear
idea concerning from this piece of writing.
THis is a real interesing article, but my concern is about my kids eye sight. I recall never being allowed to sit close up to the TV because it would ruin my eye sight. Now kids have all these gadgets right under their little noses. Is this something we should be worrying about?
There’s an interesting article here, Rosaline
In brief it says kids should not be using a computer for a long time without a break … but I guess we knew that, right? and also that’s it’s a myth that TV damages the eyes!
Excellent article. I am experiencing many of these issues as well..
Hello, just wanted to tell you, I liked this article. It was funny.
Keep on posting!
Hi there! I’m at work browsing your blog from my new apple iphone!
Just wanted to say I love reading your blog and look forward to all your posts!
Keep up the fantastic work!
Tablets and computers are not like TV because kids learn from them and use them in different ways. TV is passive, computers are not. I think many parents are stuck on the old idea that screen time = bad, book time = good. It’s not like that anymore. They need to know this stuff when they go to school and the earlier they start the better.
Are they bad for kids eyes?
I don’t think screens are bad for kids eyes in themselves. What is bad is keeping the eyes focused at the same distance for a long time. So if they stare at it and never look up, it can be bad. If they often look away, it should be better.
I like TV = passive, computer = active. Of course it is not that simple but it’s a good distinction. We do see computers as little TVs, and they are really not.
Can you tell us more about this? I’d want to find out some additional information.
Well, it kind of speaks for itself. A computer doesn’t just require your kid to sit there and look at it, unless it is playing movies all the time. The kids are doing something and using their brains. If you get a Wii, they can use their legs and all, too.
You can’t stop kids having electronic devices these days even if you wanted to. I mean unless you are Amish or something 😉 It is only a question of what age they start, and whether you want to restrict time spent useing them.
Thank you for the auspicious writeup. It in fact was a amusement account it.
Look advanced to far added agreeable from you!
By the way, how can we communicate?
I have no idea how you can communicate, friend. You are not doing a great job so far, just sayin’.
I guess you are a spammer. Maybe stop using the random word generator? 😉
Computers are better than TV imo because they get to do something instead of just sitting there passive absorbing cartoons or whatever. The problem with a little tablet is you can’t see what their doing on it. Parental controls work in a more random way than I would like.
It’s really very complex in this busy life to listen news on TV, so I only use internet for that reason, and obtain the latest information.
Yes, but do you like your kids to watch the news on their tablets? The news can be pretty scary for little kids.
Awesome post.
Can I simply say what a relief to discover somebody that agrees that electronics for kids is not simply a matter of good or bad. They have their advantages and their disadvantages. Like any tool, it’s all in how you use it.
That’s really a great and helpful piece of info. I’m happy that you simply shared this useful information with us.
